Work hard until your idols become your rivals.
But the Chooks-to-Go Philippine Superliga Invitationals Cup 2018 preliminary round broke the mold as father and daughter, Edgar and Gyrra Barroga clashed in Saturday’s match between Cocolife Asset Managers and Cignal HD Spikers at the Muntinlupa Sports Center.
The blood was indeed not thicker during the match as Cignal HD, headed by older Barroga, swept the Asset Managers, 25-21, 25-21, 25-22, with most attacks dropped by Mylene Paat who scored 16 points and skipper Rachel Anne Daquis who delivered 15 markers in the match.
“Hindi ko iniisip na nandoon sya kanina kasi we really want to win,” the Cignal head coach said.

Meanwhile, the younger Barroga, who scored four during the match, recalled the exchange of looks between her and her father whenever she scores and the grins that older Barroga threw at her when an HD Spiker blocks her.
“Tinitingnan talaga namin yung isa’t isa tapos kami yung nag-aangasan,” the former La Salle spiker said.
The RTU Lady Thunders head coach shared that he was not able to do the usual morning work out he does with his daughter, but he is happy with the latter’s performance.
“Actually nakita ko ‘yung performance nya, mas okay pala ‘pag hindi kami nagttraining na dalawa iba kasi yung motivation nya kanina e,” he said.
On the rare preliminary match, the younger Barroga shared how she felt blessed for the once in a lifetime experience.
“I feel very blessed kasi sometimes mo lang makakalaban yung dad mo and it doesnt really happen in the volleyball community.”
Cignal HD spikers remained undefeated at 4-0 after the match, securing a sure semis spot and will take a one-week rest to wait for other semis contenders.
