Petron silences F2 Logistics, moves to the semis

In what was anticipated as a match that will go down-the-wire, Petron emerged victorious against one of the top teams on paper, F2 Logistics, in the 2018 Chooks-to-Go Philippine Superliga (PSL).

Undeniably the crowd favorite, the Cargo Movers are fresh from an international stint in Thailand where they finished fourth and carry with them the confidence that they can be at par with other southeast asian volleyball giants like Thailand.

But in the match agains the Blaze Spikers, the tenacity of the Cargo Movers were seem tamed.

Fans were expecting a close match. While the match went to four sets, the stat sheets offer a different story.

Here are some interesting bits during the game:

Four Petron Spikers scored in double digits and combined for 50 points: Bernadeth Pons, Mika Reyes, Sisi Rondina, and Aiza Maizo-Pontillas. Meanwhile, only two Cargo Movers spikers scored in double digits with Ara Galang scoring 12 points while Mich Morente added 10.

With enough spiking cudgels, it is no-brainer that the F2 Logistics will dominate the attacking department. But in this game, it was Petron that scored more in this department with 58 as opposed to F2’s 41. Bernadeth Pons and Mika Reyes tallied the highest spikes for Petron with 14 and 10, respectively.

The Cargo Movers are also known for their net defense. In this game, however, it was the Blaze Spikers that showed a tighter net defense as they outblocked the Cargo Movers 9-5. The little Pons and Rondina topped this department with two kill blocks each.

Even in the digging department, it was Petron who emerged on top again with 82 excellent digs as compared to F2’s 70. Setter Rhea Dimaculangan is one dig shy away from F2’s Dawn Macandili’s output of 18.

The Blaze Spikers, likewise, dished more excellent sets that the Cargo Movers 42-29, with Dimaculangan outsetting national team setter Kim Fajardo 34-23.
