Eya Laure draws flak and praise in win against UP

A new swag queen for the España-based crew has been born.

And her name is: Eya Laure.

In what seemed to be a tightly-contested match between the University of the Philippines and University of Santo Tomas, emotions run high as the opposing teams tried to outsmart each other with all possible means, including taunting and stare downs.

Laure, the younger sister of EJ, was at the receiving end of both flak and praise as she fiercely toyed on UP’s defense, and as soon as she scores, she adds it up with some feisty look and shout — reminiscent of Aby Maraño’s beast-mode-don’t-care mantra.

The high school sensation out of the UST’s high school program scored 18 points out of 12 attacks, five aces, and a block, enough to propel UST to a four-straight win and to keep their unblemished record in the Collegiate Conference of the Premier Volleyball League.

“Sobrang happy kasi alam ko na nakakatulong ako sa team namin. At ‘yun naman talaga ‘yung goal ko kaya ako nag-enter dito sa UST,” Laure said in a video interview after the game.

“Sobrang masaya kasi four-straight wins na kami,” she added.

Apparently, Laure’s on-court ‘angas’ did not bode well with some of the netizens who followed the game as they took to Twitter to air their criticisms and admiration for the up-and-coming UST rookie.

Let’s take a look at some of the best moments on Twitter:

After all the stare downs, however, all players are still friends. It’s all part of the game, as they say.
