No TV, online telecast for PH-Japan volleyball match

Asian Games 2018

Sad news for volleyball fans.

To give way for major sporting events, there will be no TV or online telecast for the highly-anticipated Philippine-Japan match-up in the women’s volleyball tourney of the Asian Games 2018 in Indonesia.

As reported by ESPN5, the official Asiad broadcaster, on Twitter, the battle between the Aby Maraño-led squad and the Japanese will have a delayed telecast instead on August 22, Wednesday, at 8 p.m. on AksyonTV.

The non-telecast is due to the big events in basketball, weightlifting and taekwondo simultaneously slated from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Jordan Clarkson makes his national team jersey debut as Gilas Pilipinas wade through a war against a much taller China basketball team at 5 p.m.

At the same time, Rio Olympics silver medalist Hidilyn Diaz will try to lift the country anew as she is set to compete in the gold medal match of the weightlifting tourney.

Pauline Lopez of the Philippinesl Taekwondo team, who is already assured of a medal, will be fighting in the semifinals match of the women’s -57 kg kyorugi event after defeating Gyani Chunara of Nepal in the quarterfinals.

Alyssa Valdez, Jaja Santiago and the rest of the Nationals opened their bid with a straight set loss, 22-25, 12-25, 15-25, from Thailand last Sunday.

Valdez top scored for the Nationals with seven hits all from kills while Santiago added six markers on a losing effort.
