PSL, PVL players unite for AVC Asian Cup

AVC Asian Women's Volleyball Cup

A mixture of Philippine Superliga (PSL) and Premier Volleyball League (PVL) players were selected to complete the 14-woman line-up that will represent the country in the 2018 AVC Asian Women’s Volleyball Cup in Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand.

Former UAAP Most Valuable Player Aby Maraño was re-appointed to lead the new-look squad as announced by the Larong Volleyball sa Pilipinas Inc. (LVPI) on Friday.

Almost half of the squad that saw action in the recently-concluded Asian Games will miss the prestigious tourney.

De La Salle alumni Kianna Dy, Majoy Baron, and Dawn Macandili will fly to New York as part of the Lady Spikers' reward for completing a grandslam in the 80th UAAP.

Star playmaker Kim Fajardo, for one, will take a four-week rest due to a knee injury while Jaja Santiago and Dindin Manabat will compete in the V League Premier in Japan.

The Philippines is bracketed with Iran, Kazakhstan, and Australia in Pool C while China, Vietnam, and Chinese Taipei are in Pool B. Asia’s superteams Japan, South Korea, and host Thailand landed in a ‘group of death’ in Pool A.
