Six players from the Asian Games lineup will be skipping the national team’s stint in the upcoming AVC Cup for Women due to various reasons.
Towering Jaja Santiago and Dindin Santiago-Manabat and F2 Logistics’ Kim Fajardo, Dawn Macandili, Majoy Baron and Kim Dy will not be seeing action for the Nationals when the Cup opens from September 17 to 24 in Thailand.
The Santiago sisters will be in Japan during the tournament as they are set to play in the highly-vaunted Japan V.League.
Leaving Foton for a while, Santiago will be suiting up for Ageo Medics while the older Santiago-Manabat will be playing for a yet-to-be-named club for the rest of the year.
Starting setter Fajardo will be sitting out for the tournament to recover from a knee injury, joining Ces Molina and Myla Pablo in the injury bay.
The triumvirate of Macandili, Baron and Dy will be absentee as well as they will be flying with the De La Salle Lady Spikers to New York on September 9.
The trip is a post-season reward for the Lady Spikers after winning the UAAP Season 80 title and giving for the Taft-based squad its 11th championship.
Replacing them in the lineup, which was released by the Larong Volleyballl ng Pilipinas, Inc. (LVPI) Friday night, are Creamline’s Risa Sato, Jema Galanza and Mel Gohing, Smart’s Gretchel Soltones and Jasmine Nabor, and veteran spiker Aiza Maizo from Petron.
The six new additions will be playing alongside re-assigned skipper Aby Marano, Alyssa Valdez, Jia Morado, Mika Reyes, Denden Lazaro, Cha Cruz, Maika Ortiz and Mylene Paat.
The Philippines looks to exact revenge on familiar rival Kazakhstan as they are both slated in Pool C with Iran and Australia.
