Jaja Santiago’s Saitama Ageo Medics bowed to Denso Airybees in straight sets, 21-25,22-25,23-25, to absorb their first loss in the 2018-2019 Japan V. Premier League Saturday at the Kanazawa City General Gymnasium in Japan.
The Medics put up a gallant stand but fell short against the Airybees as their streak came to an end, giving them a 2-1 card in the league’s Eastern conference.
Katarina Barun exploded for 25 points off 23 kills and two blocks for the Medics, who are currently second in the rankings behind the unbeaten NEC Red Rockets.
Santiago, who tallied 12 hits apiece during their first two assignments, was limited to five attacks off 12 tries and two aces for a meager seven markers.
The Medics look to bounce back from the loss against defending champions Hisamitsu Springs on November 17 at 2 p.m.
In the Western conference’s play, Dindin Santiago-Manabat has yet to see action as the Toray Red Arrows defeated the Okayama Seagulls in four sets, 25-14, 16-25, 25-23, 25-22.
The Red Arrows, who improved to a win-loss 1-1 slate, clashes with PFU BlueCats on November 11 at 3 p.m.
