The feeling is mutual between Creamline’s Alyssa Valdez and UST’s Eya Laure as they both revealed that they wish to be teammates someday.
Arguably the best spikers of their respective generation, Valdez and Laure shared a common wish to play alongside each other in the same team.
In an interview with Volleyverse, the 25-year-old Valdez bared that if given a chance to team up with a UAAP player, her top pick is one of the country’s rising star in Laure.
“Kung may iwi-wish ako na player na nasa UAAP na sana maging teammate ko, hindi pa siya ga-graduate pero si Eya Laure,” the two-time PVL champion said.
The national team campaigner further praised Laure, describing the youngster as “very talented” and “very high caliber”.
In a response on Tuesday via her Twitter account, Laure expressed gratitude for the kind words from the two-time UAAP champion Valdez.
The 19-year-old Laure even vowed to work harder to earn slot in the national team, where Valdez has been a member of since 2015.
“Ate @AlyssaValdez2 mas gagalingan ko pa po para ma-earn ko yung spot ko po sa national team. Speechless ako ate nung nabasa ko to kasi sa dami na volleyball players, ako yung winiwish mo. Thank you so much ate! Gustong-gusto ko din po ikaw makateamate,” Laure wrote.

Valdez and Laure are both products of the UST girls’ volleyball program, serving as the face of the celebrated juniors team during their respective eras.
The similarity ended there, though, as the two chose different paths in college.
While Laure opted to stay with the Tigresses, Valdez brought her talents to Katipunan and steered the Ateneo Lady Eagles to two UAAP championships.
But while the younger spiker is not yet allowed to join a semi-pro club, specifically Valdez and Creamline, their wish of playing for one team might just happen in the international arena.
Valdez and Laure were both present during the recently-concluded national team tryouts for the seniors and Under-23 division held from January 23 to 24 at Arellano University Taft.
