Jeanette Panaga catches fire for Petro Gazz’s fourth win: “Hindi pwedeng imports parati”

In a conference where foreign reinforcements have been dominating the court, local players are more than welcome to contribute.

Middle blocker Jeanette Panaga put this in mind as she helped her team PetroGazz Angels maintain their untainted record after overpowering the Balipure Water Defenders in straight sets, 25-19, 25-12, 25-15, earlier in the 2019 PVL Reinforced Conference at the Filoil Flying V Center.

The Angels displayed nothing short of dominance in their game, making it rain from the offensive end and complimenting their scoring with their defensive stability to clinch another perfect win.

Foreign reinforcements Wilma Salas and Janisa Johnson took charge for PetroGazz anew with 12 points each.

However, Panaga proved she is capable of showing up for the Angels as she led the locals with 11 points each, a welcome contribution for her team.

The former College of Saint Benilde standout led her club team’s net defense, registering three kill blocks to add to her seven attacks and one ace.

Panaga thanked her team for showing trust in her, while also crediting her teammates and their collective effort in their game earlier.

“Sobrang happy ako kasi binigyan nila ako ng tiwala para mag-perform sa team ng Petro Gazz. Very happy kami na lahat nagcontribute–pinag-aralan talaga namin ‘yung bawat game para mas pagbubutihin namin na maglaro kami,” Panaga said.

PetroGazz dominated Balipure all throughout the game, outperforming them both in offense and defense as they have yet to drop a set in the tournament.

With the foreign players dominating the scoreboard in every game, the middle blocker said the local players should step up and do their part as well for a more solid showing.

“Ang mindset kasi namin is reinforced ‘to, so gagawa talaga ‘yung imports namin. Pero siyempre, hindi naman sila parati–kami ding local players, support kami para mas maganda ang ipakita ng team,” Panaga said.

Head coach Arnold Laniog commended Panaga’s efforts today, saying she and fellow middle blocker Cherry Nunang have been important for Petro Gazz’s consistent net defense in this tournament.

“Ang laking bagay talaga ni Pangs–I’ve been coaching for men’s collegiate volleyball and club teams, so lahat ng naging teams ko, ang focus is more on blocking. Kaya nandiyan si Pangs, malaking bagay, and also Nunag, may capacity talagang mag-block nang maayos,” Laniog said.

With their win earlier, the Angels stand on top of the team standings with a 4-0 record.

PetroGazz looks to end the first round undefeated as they face the Pacifictown Army Lady Troopers this weekend.
