Creamline a win away from reclaiming Reinforced Conference crown, survives Petro Gazz in four

Despite dropping the highly-contested first set, Creamline still drew first blood against Petro Gazz, 24-26, 25-16, 25-16, 25-22, in Game 1 of the best-of-three finals game of the Premier Volleyball League (PVL) Reinforced Conference today at the Filoil Flying V Center.

The Cool Smashers shrugged off a slow start in the first set and woke up just in time to win the succeeding sets to put them a win away from reclaiming their Reinforced Conference crown.

Petro Gazz tried to extend the match in five sets as their reinforcement Wilma Salas and Janisa Johnson dictated the phase earlier for a 17-14 lead.

The Cool Smashers, however, maintained their cool and scored consecutive points before Petro Gazz’ middle blocker Cherry Rose Nunag was called for an overreaching violation to hand Creamline the victory.

It was a neck-and-neck battle at the onset of the fourth set between the two teams, where both of them exchanged blows, putting the game on several deadlocks.

Kuttika Kaewpin paced Creamline with 21 points built from 18 kills and three aces. She also had 16 digs for a double-double performance.

Jonshon and Salas, meanwhile, were the brigh spots for Petro Gazz who had 20 and 18 markers respectively. The Angels, however, committed 31 errors in four sets, which largely contributed to their loss.

Game 2 of this series will be played on Saturday in the same venue.
