Michele Gumabao leads Creamline in opening straight-set win against Air Force

The Creamline Cool Smashers opened their title campaign on a high note as they swept the Philippine Air Force Jet Spikers in straight sets, 25-23, 25-20, 25-15, earlier in the 2019 Premier Volleyball League Open Conference at the Filoil Flying V Center.

After a seesaw battle in the first set that ended in a rather controversial call, the Cool Smashers slowly found groove as their usual offense caught fire in the second set, ultimately creating momentum for a dominant performance in the third set for the win.

Opposite spiker Michele Gumabao headlined Creamline’s opening win of the tournament, finishing with 14 points–all from attacks–to lead her team.

Team captain Alyssa Valdez and middle blocker Risa Sato, meanwhile, chipped in 13 and 11 points respectively.

Middle blocker Dell Palomata finished as the lone double-digit scorer for the Jet Spikers with 14 points.

Creamline guns for back-to-back wins as they face Motolite next, while Air Force looks to bounce back against Banko Perlas Spikers on Wednesday.
