Michele Gumabao on Creamline’s back-to-back wins: “It’s all about preparation”

For Michele Gumabao, Creamline’s masterful back-to-back wins resulted from thorough preparation and strengthening their teamwork.

The Creamline Cool Smashers snatched their second consecutive win after dismantling Motolite in straight sets, 25-14, 25-15, 25-14, earlier in the 2019 PVL Open Conference at the Filoil Flying V Center.

It was sheer domination for the Cool Smashers who dominated in almost every aspect of the game, leading early in sets and displaying an all-around game against Motolite.

Team captain Alyssa Valdez led the Cool Smashers with 15 points, while Jema Galanza chipped in 12 points atop a triple-double performance.

Gumabao, who contributed nine points, said their strong showing for the past two games was the result of consistent training and refusing to settle for less.

“It’s all about preparation for us, and iyon naman talaga ‘yung puhunan namin each and every game–our trainings and ‘yung teamwork namin,” Gumabao said.

“Mas pinapapabuti lang naman every single game–iyon lang talaga ‘yung pinapaalalahanan sa amin ni Coach Tai, na never settle,” she added.

Performing well so far for Creamline after leading her team in their previous win over the Philippine Air Force Jet Spikers, the opposite spiker said there is no pressure on her part to score as long as she does her part.

“You really just have to follow the system. Ako naman, never kong iniisip na kailangan kong pumuntos o kailangan kong pumatay—how you can contribute the team, iyon lang talaga. Kapag ikaw nasa harapan and nabigyan ka ng chance, you have to give it justice,” Gumabao said.

She also shared her appreciation with head coach Tai Bundit’s system and their intense training for each game, saying that the grind helps her maintain form and even improve her game.

“With Coach Tai, he’ll never make you settle–sa practice, pipigain ka niya talaga hangga’t lumabas lahat. Personally I appreciate it because as you grow older, kailangan mas tumitindi ‘yung laro,” she said.

Gumabao and the Cool Smashers look to establish three straight wins as they face the Chef’s Classic Lady Red Spikers next week.
