Bombita savors first win, quips “it feels like we’re champions”

There’s nothing like that first win feeling.

After snatching their first win after thirteen games this season, Balipure team captain Grazielle Bombita couldn’t hide her jubilation as they finally woke up from their losing slump: “Para kaming nag-champion.”

The Balipure Water Defenders snapped their twelve-game losing streak this season as they subdued the Philippine Air Force Jet Spikers in five sets, 26-24, 16-25, 25-19, 17-25, 17-15, earlier in the 2019 Premier Volleyball League Open Conference at the Filoil Flying V Center.

The game saw a back-and-forth affair between both teams, winning alternate sets to force a decider.

Tied at 15-all in the last set, Bombita gave back the lead to her team with a crosscourt spike before snatching the game with an attack error by Air Force.

The team captain delivered big time for the Balipure with 23 points, while fellow open spiker Menchie Tubiera added 17 along with a double-double performance.

It was an all-needed win for the Water Defenders who needed some uplifting, having their spirits down for a long time after experiencing one loss after another.

“To be honest, nakaka-low morale naman talaga na nasa bottom kami. At least ngayon, masasabi namin na kaya din naman pala naming manalo,” Bombita said.

While it is only Balipure’s first win after thirteen games, the team captain said they would enjoy the high right now considering how much they have sacrificed to finally break into the winning column.

“Nakaka-high morale po–ganito pala ‘yung pakiramdam kapag nanalo. Nakita ko kung gaano kasaya ‘yung mga teammates ko na nanalo kami. Sobrang sarap sa pakiramdam–worth it yung sacrifices and ‘yung biyahe araw-araw,” Bombita said.

Facing Motolite in their next game, Bombita said the team should work twice as hard and believe in themselves in order to start a winning culture within their team.

“Kailangan pa naming doblehin yung ginagawa namin. Kailangan lang naming ilaban and maniwala na kaya namin,” she ended.
