The Petro Gazz Angels soared to dominance anew as they overpowered the Banko Perlas Spikers in straight sets, 25-18, 25-18, 25-22, earlier in the 2019 Premier Volleyball League Open Conference at the Filoil Flying V Center.
After suffering a loss against Banko to start their campaign this conference, Petro Gazz bounced back with a stronger game this time around, relying on their offensive arsenal to clinch their sixth straight win.
The Angels outscored the Perlas Spikers on all scoring skills, specifically their notable seven-point service game against their opponents’ lone point.
Four players ended in double digits for Petro Gazz, with Jovy Prado and Jeanette Panaga leading the pack with 12 points each. Meanwhile, Cherry Nunag added 11 and Jonah Sabete with 10 atop a triple-double performance.

Head coach Arnold Laniog credited their Taiwan stint as having the most impact in their recent stronger outings, saying the experience bonded them as a team and strengthened their system.
“Hindi naging maganda ‘yung result sa tournament, but ‘yung effect sa team, sobrang ganda–‘yung bonding and ‘yung system na na-adopt namin doon. Hindi pa ganoong kaconsistent, but at least nakuha nila,” he said.
With the win, Petro Gazz stands on solo second with a 7-2 standing, right behind the Creamline Cool Smashers with a perfect 10-0 slate.

While Laniog said the Angels will take the tournament one game at a time, the head coach is confident that his squad will land another Final Four finish amid tough competition.
“Sa mindset at response ng players, nakikita ko talaga at gusto nilang [mag-Final Four]. Lalo na’t before nung may import, mostly talaga ganun ‘yung sistema ko, na paganahin ‘yung import,” Laniog said.
“But this time, pinapatunayan natin na kahit walang import, kaya nating mag-top four, which is iyon din naman ‘yung challenge sa kanila sa simula,” he added.
Petro Gazz looks to extend their winning streak to seven as they face the winless Chef’s Classics Lady Red Spikers on their next game.
