Rising star Trisha Genesis caught fire for the Adamson University Lady Falcons anew as they drew first blood over the University of Santo Tomas Golden Tigresses earlier in the 2019 PVL Collegiate Conference best-of-three title series at the Filoil Flying V Center.
The Lady Falcons outlasted the Tigresses in five sets, 23-25, 25-17, 25-16, 21-25, 15-11, to gain the upper hand in the championship showdown.
The opening salvo of the best-of-three series proved to be a tight affair with both teams recording close figures in most skill departments.
Genesis led the double-digit quartet for the Lady Falcons with 21 points built on a triple-double performance of 19 attacks, 16 excellent digs, and 20 successful receives.
Teammate Cesea Pinar chipped in 16 markers, while Lucille Almonte and Lorene Toring added 15 each to help Adamson draw first blood in the finals showdown.
On the other hand, national team player Eya Laure led the losing effort for UST with 19 points, while sister EJ Laure and rookie Imee Hernandez added 15 each.
Setter Louie Romero also orchestrated the San Marcelino squad’s offense with 33 excellent sets on a 25 percent efficiency, edging out España rival Maji Mangulabnan who tallied 18 sets on a 16 percent efficiency.
The Lady Falcons look to snatch the collegiate title while the Tigresses seek to extend the series in their Game Two skirmish on Saturday.
