Banko books PVL semis ticket as Army faces slim F4 hopes

The Banko Perlas Spikers finally sealed their Final Four spot after surviving the  Pacifictown Army Lady Troopers in five sets, 25-27, 25-20, 25-22, 21-25, 15-9, to earlier in the 2019 Premier Volleyball League Open Conference in Bacolod City.

Unlike their previous campaigns where they had to rely on their opponents’ outings to land a semifinals berth, Banko took the Final Four spot themselves as they took their tenth win at the expense of the Lady Troopers.

Veteran Sue Roces caught fire for the Perlas Spikers with 20 points, while Dzi Gervacio and Nicole Tiamzon recorded 18 and 17 atop double-double performances.

On the other hand, Royse Tubino led the losing effort for Pacifictown Army with 21 markers, while Jovelyn Gonzaga dropped 20 built on a triple-double game.

Banko takes a 10-5 slate and joins defending Open Conference champions Creamline Cool Smashers in the semifinals.

With their 6-7 record, the Lady Troopers need to win their remaining games and hope that either Motolite or the Petro Gazz Angels—who both have nine wins—drop their remaining games in order to force a playoff.
