Even without star players Alyssa Valdez and Jia Morado, the Creamline Cool Smashers managed to keep their record immaculate after punishing BanKo Perlas in straight sets, 25-22, 27-25, 25-14, in the Premier Volleyball League Open Conference held at the Filoil Flying V Arena.
Valdez and Morado flew to Japan earlier today to fulfill their duties for the national team, that will have a 12-day training camp in preparation for the country’s hosting of the Southeast Asian Games.
Left in the core of Creamline’s offense against BanKo are Jema Galanza, Michelle Gumabao, Celine Domingo, and setter Kyle Negrito. Filling in for Valdez in the open hitter post is Rosemarie Vargas.
The team did not disappoint.
Galanza finished the game 14 points from 13 attacks and a block.
In a post-game interview, Galanza noted that she needed to step up in the absence of key players like Valdez and Morado.

“Kailangan ko talagang mag-step up kasi wala sina Ate Ly at Jia.
Now a win shy from completing a rare elimination sweep, Galanza vowed that they will do everything to finish the season on high note as they face Motolite for their last game.
“Siyempre sobrang halaga ‘to kasi pang high morale sa amin ‘to.
Coming into the game, Galanza is Creamline’s number one scorer with her usual triple-double performance game. For her, her all-around performance can be attributed to the hard work put up to her by head coach Tai Bundit.
