Air Force fends off Army to finish fifth in PVL comeback

After a five-game losing streak to start the 2019 Premier Volleyball League Open Conference, the Philippine Air Force Lady Jet Spikers closed out their campaign on a strong note as they finish in fifth place after taking down the Pacifictown Army Lady Troopers.

The Lady Jet Spikers overpowered the Lady Troopers in four sets, 28-26, 25-20, 26-28, 26-24, earlier in the last day of the elimination round at the Filoil Flying V Center.

Judy Ann Caballejo led Air Force with 15 points, while Joy Cases and Dell Palomata added 13 each. In addition, May Pantino dished out 10 points built on a triple-double performance to complete the team’s double-digit quartet.

On the other hand, Royse Tubino finished as Army’s scoring leader anew with 14 points, while teammates Nene Bautista, Jem Gutierrez, and Joanne Bunag added 12, 11, and 10 markers respectively.

Air Force, who came back in the PVL after missing out on the Reinforced Conference, finished in fifth with an 8-8 record–just two wins behind the Final Four. Army, meanwhile, closed out their campaign with a 6-10 slate.
