PetroGazz closed in on its second straight Finals appearance as it made short work of BanKo-Perlas, 25-22, 25-15, 25-20, in the Game 1 of the best-of-three semifinals of the 2019 Premier Volleyball League (PVL) Open Conference at the FilOil Flying V Center in San Juan.
Riding on their sensational Reinforced Conference run, the Angels notched their fourth consecutive victory at the expense of the Perlas Spikers, moving one game away from entering the championship round anew.
PetroGazz has the chance to close the series tomorrow at 2 p.m. for Game 2 of the semis.
It was a close first set encounter between the two semifinalists before the Angels took full control in the next two sets behind the scoring efforts of Jonah Sabete, Jovie Prado, Jeanette Panaga and Cherry Nunag.
Sabete dropped team-high 12 hits built on 10 kills and a pair of blocks on top of 16 excellent reception. Prado scored 10 while Panaga and Nunag chimed in eight apiece.
Dzi Gervacio and Kathy Bersola managed 14 and 10, respectively, all for naught as BanKo-Perlas lost its second game against PetroGazz in three meetings.
The Angels had the edge in attacks (41-33), blocks (8-6) and aces (3-2) while committing fewer errors (16-22).
