Creamline takes Game One with straight-set win over Petro Gazz

The Creamline Cool Smashers drew first blood after disposing the Petro Gazz Angels in straight sets, 25-14, 25-22, 27-25, earlier in Game One of the 2019 Premier Volleyball League Open Conference title series.

After an easy opening set win, the Cool Smashers saw a tougher Petro Gazz team in the second set where the Angels eventually got their offense going.

Creamline trailed Petro Gazz in the latter part of the third set, 20-22, but team captain Alyssa Valdez took over with three straight points to give her team the lead, 23-22.

While the Angels looked to extend the game after taking set point, a service error by Jeanette Panaga gave opportunity for the Cool Smashers to close the game, with Jema Galanza taking the victory via off-the-block hit.

Valdez led the defending Open Conference champions with 19 points, while Galanza and Michele Gumabao added 15 and 10 respectively.

On the other hand, the open spiker duo of Jonah Sabete and Jovy Prado led Petro Gazz’ losing effort with 12 and 11 markers respectively.

With the win, the Cool Smashers remain undefeated in the conference with their 17-game winning streak.

Creamline looks to end the title series on Saturday, while Petro Gazz hopes to take Game Two to extend the series to a do-or-die game.
