Alyssa Valdez lauds Jema Galanza for strong Game One showing: “Napakalakas lang talaga”

Alyssa Valdez has nothing but praises for teammate Jema Galanza after the latter’s formidable performance in Creamline’s straight-set win over the Petro Gazz Angels earlier in Game One of the 2019 Premier Volleyball League Open Conference finals.

The Cool Smashers drew first blood in the best-of-three title series after dismantling the Angels in straight sets, 25-14, 25-22, 27-25, to take one step closer in defending their Open Conference crown.

While Valdez also had a strong showing of her own with 19 points to lead Creamline, the team captain commended not only Galanza for her 15-point performance but also the whole squad for displaying collective effort in their Game One victory.

“Napakalakas lang talaga ng Jema Galanza, [and] everyone really contributed with their roles so hopefully maging consistent lang,” Valdez said.

Galanza has made a strong case for the conference’s Most Valuable Player award with her immense numbers after the elimination round, tallying 226 markers on a 14.13 average points per game and finishing in the top ten of four skill departments.

Valdez praised Galanza for her growth with the Cool Smashers, noting the latter’s reliability and composure in pressure-packed moments of the game.

“What I saw in today’s game, Jema really matured from the first time I get to be with her as a teammate. Iba na ‘yung growth niya as a player and as an individual. Napakita niya iyon sa game, na kapag end game, alam mong lalaban na talaga,” the team captain said.

Both open hitters prove to be key players in Creamline’s unquestionable dominance in the tournament, remaining unscathed with their unprecedented 17-game winning streak.

Facing their Reinforced Conference tormentors, Valdez hopes the Cool Smashers have learned their lesson against the Angels as they seek to finish the title series in Game Two.

“One thing we want as a team is ayaw naming maulit ‘yung hirap na pinagdaanan namin nung Reinforced Conference, so we have to stay focused and composed towards our other games,” she ended.
