Creamline made history as it completed a sensational 2019 Premier Volleyball League (PVL) Open Conference 2019 sweep after beating PetroGazz in three sets, 29-27, 25-22, 27-25, Saturday in the Game 2 of the Finals at the FilOil Flying V Center in San Juan.
The Cool Smashers completed an unprecedented 20-0 tournament sweep — the first in the league’s history — en route to a back-to-back Open Conference title.
Jema Galanza and Alyssa Valdez provided the big punches as Creamline notched its overall third PVL title in under two years while avenging its Finals lost against PetroGazz the last conference.
With PetroGazz looking to extend the match, 24-25, Galanza and Valdez came through with off-the-block kills of their own to take the lead before an error from the opposing side sealed the championship for the back-to-back champs.
Creamline capped the conference with a whooping 60 set wins whilst only dropping five sets as PetroGazz and BanKo-Perlas settled for silver and bronze, respectively.
The opening set went down the wire with both teams showing character in the extension.
Trailing by three, 8-11, Creamline shifted the momentum to their side to arrive at set point with a three-point advantage, 24-21.
PetroGazz then gunned for a 4-0 run to snatch the lead as Jonah Sabete and Jovie Prado each put their squad at set point, 27-26.
Risa Sato tied things up with a point off an over reception from the Angels before Valdez dropped back-to-back hits to seal the set for the Cool Smashers.
Tangled in another back-and-forth affair, the ladies in pink broke away from the 19-all deadlock for a three-point lead in the fourth, 22-19.
It was the red-and-white spikers turn to make a late run after chipping away the deficit to just one, 23-22 before a Valdez hit and a Sabete error handed the set to the former.
