Malabanan relieved to survive car accident, five-set thriller on ‘crazy Tuesday’

BaliPure’s Jerrili Malabanan just had one of the craziest days on Tuesday.

See, even before her arriving at PhilSports Arena for Game 2 of the Premier Volleyball League Reinforced Conference Finals, the Lady Warrior got herself into quite a trouble on the road.

“It was my fault, I kind of fell asleep while driving,” Malabanan recalled to sports scribes how she and her teammates figured in a minor car accident along EDSA.

“We didn’t know what to do, we were freaking out. I told them to go ahead and then I stayed with the car.”

Malabanan were with teammates Grethcel Soltones and Iris Oliveros when the accident happened.

Luckily for them, there was no injuries sustained. Malabanan though was a bit late in the pre-game warmup.

“Maybe a little bit [affected], I was worried. I didn’t know if I would make it in time for the warm up. They’re already dressed for warmup when I got here.”

The roller-coaster ride for Malabanan didn’t stop there though, as she and the rest of the Water Defenders fought for their lives in a classic five-setter against the defending champions Pocari Sweat.

Malabanan scored 10 points as they survived a neck-and-neck match to force a Game 3 of Finals.

On what’s crazier between the accident and the game, only Malabanan can tell for sure.

“I think it was worth it. It was a crazy day. I got into a car accident, then I went to the game, wasn’t expecting it.”
