BaliPure undergoes overhaul anew, taps high school standouts

If there is one local volleyball team who had several drastic changes in its roster over the past years, then it is the BaliPure Water Defenders.

The team started their campaign in the 2016 Shakey’s V-League Open Conference with a line-up composed mostly of Ateneo alums including Alyssa Valdez, Dzi Gervacio, Jem Ferrer, Amy Ahomiro, Ella de Jesus among others.

The team did a complete makeover the following year as multi-titled head coach Roger Gorayeb took over the reins.

He brought in National University players Aiko Urdas, Jasmine Nabor, Risa Sato and Jorelle Singh, beefed up by three-time NCAA MVP Gretchel Soltones and defense specialists Tatan Gata-Pantone and Alyssa Eroa.

The team had a productive season, finishing as bridesmaids in the Reinforced Conference followed by a breakthrough title run in the Open Conference as they submerged Pocari Sweat to clinch their first-ever title.

However, Gorayeb and the core of the champion BaliPure squad have all bolted out to transfer to a rival team.

The team will now be mentored by Babes Castillo – who handles both the juniors and seniors program of National University.

The motivational tactician is fresh from leading the National University Lady Bulldogs into the Final Four of the recently concluded UAAP Season 80 Women’s Volleyball tournament.

The team will now be composed mainly by gunners from the four-time UAAP Girls Volleyball champs Nazareth School of National University with a couple of players from the seniors squad.

Two-time season Most Valuable Player and two-time Finals MVP Faith Nisperos will headline the young squad, joined by three-time Best Setter Joyme Cagande and Season 80 MVP Mhicaela Belen.

Also in the line-up are NSNU standouts Alyssa Solomon, Ivy Lacsina, Princess Robles and Jennifer Nierva with Roselyn Doria, Roma Joy Doromal, Audrey Paran, Gayle Valdez and returning setter Rica Diolan from the seniors squad.

Bali Pure has yet to announce their imports for the upcoming reinforced conference.

They will first test their mettle against the Iriga-Navy Oragons on May 9 at 4:00pm.
