Balipure-NU scores first victory after dismantling Petro Gazz in battle of winless teams

Youth prevailed over experience as the young Balipure-NU squad nosed out Petro Gazz Angels in a rousing five-set victory, 22-25, 25-23, 28-26, 22-25, 15-12, in the preliminaries of the Premier Volleyball League Reinforced Conference this afternoon at the San Juan Arena.

Janisa Johnson arrived just in time for the Water Defenders, who lost their opening match without her last Wednesday, as she topscorred for 30 points built from 26 kills and four service aces.

Roselyn Doria gave Balipure-NU the match point off a quick hit before the American open hitter sealed the victory with an off-the block kill down the middle, 15-10.

The Water Defenders dropped the first set but captured the next two as they prevailed over the more experienced Angels in a nip and tuck battle in the second and third sets, with the five-foot-six Princess Robles and foreign import delivering the crucial hits.

The win gave Babes Castillo and the Water Defenders its first win of the conference after losing their debut game in four sets against Iriga-Navy Lady Oragons.

Meanwhile, Petro Gazz absorbed its third loss in as many outings and its second five-setter loss of the conference to remain as the only team without a win.

The Water Defenders will take on the Tacloban Fighting Warays this Saturday while the Angels will try to win its first victory against Banko-Perlas om Sunday.
