Angels crush Oragons, new import dazzles in debut

Angels Petrogazz

New import Olena Lymareva-Flink dazzled in her debut game as Petro Gazz Angels notched their second win at the expense of skidding Iriga Lady Oragons in the Premier Volleyball League Reinforced Conference, Saturday afternoon at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.

The Paneng Mercado-skippered squad crushed Lady Oragons in the third frame despite a tooth-and-nail first two sets for a 25-22, 30-28, 25-13 win for their second win in five outings.

The Ukranian outside hitter finished 16 markers off 12 kills and four aces with 14 digs in her debut game after replacing Kadi Kullerkan who ended her season prematurely due to recurring knee injury.

Lauren Whyte and Macy Ubben’s combined 31 hits weren’t enough to pull Iriga away from falling into a three-game slump for a 1-3 card.

With Petro Gazz waking up on the right side of the bed, Cherry Nunag picked up where she left off with this hit.

Despite late meltdown, the Angels managed to fly away with the first set tucked under their belts, 25-22. And that deserves a group hug like this.

It was a complete turnover as Petro Gazz made a 10-2 run after being down by two in the first technical timeout in the second set. Lady Oragons, meanwhile, squandered a two-point lead.

But Iriga pulled a run of their own to tie the set at 20.

Supportive husband we got here!

Local support was lacking for Iriga again as Petro Gazz wins the extended second set, 30-28.

One of the jobs of middle blockers is to fool the net defense of the opponent. Sadly, Iriga’s offense was predictable throughout the game: either lef tor right wings.

And even their floor defense is not working.

Petro Gazz is nothing but business as they sweep skidding Iriga Lady Oragons.
