At the start of Premier Volleyball League (PVL) Collegiate Conference’s preliminary round this season, a quick finish was hardly possible for the teams that clashed against the College of Saint Benilde – Lady Blazers.
During Benilde’s first match against the FEU Lady Tams, the Morayta-based squad had a taste of a tiring five-set victory as their campaign opener while on Sunday’s game, Adamson Lady Falcons had to overcome all four frames set with thorns before they could put down Benilde, 25-22, 22-25, 25-22, 25-21, and get their second straight win in the league at the FilOil Flying V Centre.
After dominating the second frame and being down again on the third, the Lady Blazers were still able to shake Adamson’s momentum come fourth set cutting their deficit to one, from Adamson’s 20-15 lead. With Adamson’s veteran key players sealing the fourth set to their second win, Benilde dropped at 0-2 standing in the league.
“Sayang,” Benilde head coach Jerry Yee told FOX Sports PH. “Kaya pa naman sana mag-compete in a higher level pero siguro they have to believe in themselves pa.”
The former UP Lady Maroons coach highlighted the players’ lack of mental tougness in court as the recurring snag in the team which was evident in the “simple errors” and the team’s inconsistent confidence during crucial sets.
Nonetheless, win or lose, Yee would like to see the team’s improvement in court based on the lessons they will pick up from the previous games.
“Hindi pwedeng at the same level lang tayo. Sana magimprove tayo,” he said.
CSB is bound to face NCAA neighbor San Beda Red Spikers on Thursday at the same venue.
