After three straight sweep victories at the expense of NCAA teams in the preliminary round of the Premier Volleyball League (PVL) Collegiate Conference this season, the UST Golden Tigresses now hold the top spot alongside FEU Lady Tams with a 3-0 standing.
As the conference leads the team closer to matches against UAAP rivals, head coach Kungfu Reyes takes this as a preview on how the rookie-laden team will play in court against the universities in the same collegiate league.
“‘Yung mga gano’ng instances, wine-welcome naman namin ‘yun,” Reyes said. “Syempre mas gusto namin ‘yung makita namin na kaya namin makipagsabayan do’n sa mga UAAP teams.”
The mentor also shared that the face-off with UAAP rivals will let them further “test” the character of each player the UST way, where character building weighs heavier than skills which only require enhancement.
“Sabi nga, ‘di namin kailangan ng sobrang magaling. Kailangan namin ng mga matatapang, mga willing magkamali, mga willing matuto,” he added.
With the “so far, so good” performance displayed by the Tigresses at the start of the conference, the realistic Reyes does not openly look forward to anything in specific come their upcoming matches against UAAP teams but has come up with more of an “action speaks louder than words” style.
“Pagandahan na lang kami ng preparasyon,” he said. “Pagandahan na lang kami ng gising.”
UST will be facing the Diliman-based Lady Maroons on Sunday, August 4, at the FilOil Flying V Centre.
