PVL: Adamson keeps Baste winless, sweeps elims

Adamson University had rusty start but came alive just in time to complete an elimination round sweep against lowly San Sebastian College, 19-25, 25-10, 25-21, 25-13, yesterday in the Collegiate Conference of the Premier Volleyball League (PVL) held at the Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan.

The Lady Falcons had to shake off a rusty start before showing mastery over the Lady Stags in four sets.

Senior spiker Bernadette Flora topscored the team with 17 points built from 14 attacks and three kill blocks, while Eli Soyud paced the team with 15 points off 14 attacks.

The Lady Stags, who played sans head coach Roger Gorayeb due to a prior commitment, gave away 37 points on errors alone, which the Lady Falcons capitalized.

The San Marcelino-based squad’s attacks were too much for the Recto-based crew while the former’s rock-solid net defense provided the needed spark.

The lone bright spot for the Baste crew was Shannai Requierme, who single-handedly carried the team with 17 points off 14 attacks, two blocks, and an ace.

San Sebastian finished the tournament winless in seven games — a blow to the school’s rich volleyball history.
