The PetroGazz Angels pulled off a five-set stunner and spoiled Creamline Cool Smashers’ debut in the Premiere Volleyball League Open Conference 2018, yesterday at the Imus City.
Recovering from a five-set loss from Pocari Lady Warriors, the Angels essayed a masterful display in the rubber set for a five-set victory, 27-25, 25-17, 25-23, 19-25, 15-5, against Creamline.
Cherry Nunag dropped 13 hits built on 10 kills and three blocks while Jonah Sabete added another 13 markers laced with 14 digs and 11 reception for PetroGazz, who improved to a 2-2 card.
Maricar Baloaloa and skipper Paneng Mercado tallied 11 and 10 hits, respectively, for the Jerry Yee-coached squad, who registered more blocks, 13 to five.
Despite leading in all departments but blocking, Alyssa Valdez’ 26-point explosion off 24 kills, a block and an ace went for naught as Creamline absorbed their first loss.
Jema Galanza and Michele Gumabao combined for 26 markers to no avail for Creamline, who trained in Thailand for two weeks before its core competed in the 2018 AVC Cup for Women.
PetroGazz looks to build a streak as they clash with hapless Iriga Navy Lady Oragons later at 4 p.m. while Creamline shoots for their first win against Tacloban Fighting Warays in Wednesday at 4 p.m.
