Amid criticism, league-leading scorer Molina is Petron’s best player so far

There is a reason why Ces Molina is on the floor for Petron.

On many occasions, Molina’s slot in the Blaze Spikers’ starting unit was often put into question.

Many, if not most, prefer to see the high-leaping duo of Bernadeth Pons and Sisi Rondina, who have won multiple beach volleyball titles together, hitting from the wings for the defending champions.

Instead, Rondina was almost always riding the bench, only coming in as game changer for Shaq delos Santos. Molina, as skipper, keeps her place.

Amid the criticisms, though, Molina is currently Petron’s best performing spiker in their title defense campaign in the Philippine Superliga (PSL) All Filipino Conference 2019.

Proving her worth, the 24-year old spiker out of San Beda College recently fueled the Blaze Spikers to a refreshing five-setter victory over Cignal yesterday.

The reloaded HD Spikers, who pushed Petron to its second five-setter match this conference, played well in the fifth set, pushing themselves ahead by three for a 14-11 cushion.

With her team on the verge of an upset, Molina came through with back-to-back rejection on Cignal’s Mylene Paat followed by two consecutive clinch kills, enabling the Blaze Spikers to steal the match and bag their third victory.

She finished the match with game-high 25 markers built on 21 kills and four blocks, being hailed as best player of the matcb for the second time around.

In four games played, Molina zoomed to the top of the individual scoring charts with conference-best, team-high 66 points, averaging 16.5 hits per match.

But while she may not have earned the votes of the fans, Molina has definitely earned her spot in Petron as proven by her latest performances.

With this, fans could somehow look into the brighter side of things: that so far, Molina is doing her job, and so far, she is doing it well.

Up next for Molina and the Blaze Spikers is PLDT Home Fibr on July 6.
