The Foton Tornadoes got off to a good start in the second-round of Philippine Superliga (PSL) All Filipino Conference 2019 after completing a come-from-behind win, 18-21, 21-25, 25-18, 25-15, 15-4, on Tuesday against Sta. Lucia at the S.T.R.I.K.E Gym in Bacoor.
The Blue Energy bucked a slow 0-2 start before controlling the next three to claim their fourth straight win whilst keeping the Lady Realtors on a seven-game funk.
Foton zoomed to third place with an improved 4-3 card, while Sta. Lucia fell to 1-7.
Marianne Buitre had a good performance as she scored eight attacks, five aces, and a couple of blocks for 15 tallies.
Sta. Lucia looked good in the early going of the match, pocketing the first and second frames as Foton struggled to find its rhythm.
With the Santiago sisters doing most of the damage while Buitre provided big punches, the ladies in blue erased a two-set deficit as their passing stabilized. The momentum eventually led to a dominant performance in the decider.
The win marked Foton’s first five-setter win while it was Sta. Lucia’s second five-setter loss.
“We had a slow start pero we just stick to the plan. ‘Yung mga sinabi ng coaches namin before the game to go back to basics, I guess nagtuluy-tuloy na rin,” Buitre said.
The Blue Energy, per Buitre, managed to crawl from the setback by starting fresh coming into the third frame and keeping a focused mindset down the stretch.
“As professional volleyball players, hindi na namin p’wedeng sabihin na pressured kami, ganiyan. So ayun, reset. Mahaba pa ‘yung laro, hindi pa tapos ‘yung laro hangga’t hindi pa pumipito ‘yung referee,” she added.
Up next for Foton is PLDT while Sta. Lucia collides with unbeaten F2 Logistics on Thursday.
