Petron completed a head-to-head sweep of Generika Ayala after another three-set victory, 26-24, 25-12, 25-18, on Tuesday in the second-round of Philippine Superliga (PSL) All Filipino Conference 2019 at the S.T.R.IK.E. Gym in Bacoor.
Exactly a week after their straight-set first-round encounter, the Blaze Spikers re-asserted their mastery over the Lifesavers, picking up their seventh consecutive victory to maintain their grab on solo second.
The defending champs are now at 7-1 while last year’s bronze medalists absorbed their third loss in eight games.
Bernadeth Pons paced Petron with 17 kills and ace for game-high 18 points, while Remy Palma added 15 hits off eight attacks, three aces, and a pair of denials.

The opening frame went down the wire with eventual winners Petron relying on Pons, Palma, and Ces Molina as Generika leaned on Patty Orendain and Fiola Ceballos.
Gaining heat, the Blaze Spikers dominated in the second set and resisted the Lifesavers in the third after the latter showed some deep grind in the last frame.
“Binalik lang din namin ‘yung confidence kasi nag-slow start kami. Ni-rewind lang din kami ni coach na hindi tayo parang diesel na naman so dapat maging aggressive. Hindi p’wedeng same ‘yung sa last game namin. Sila nag-adjust na din so dapat mas aggressive na kami,” Palma said.
Petron targets with no. 8 against Cignal on Thursday while Generika eyes to bounce back on July 20 versus Foton.
