Petron coach all praises for ‘spark plug’ Sisi Rondina: ‘Siya ang bumubuhay sa team namin’

Petron head coach Shaq Delos Santos lauded Sisi Rondina for being the team’s spark plug and providing the much-needed boost to fulfil a sweet comeback over their first-round tormentors.

The Blaze Spikers exacted vengeance against the F2 Logistics Cargo Movers as they snatched a five-set comeback, 26-28, 27-29, 25-19, 25-20, 15-6, yesterday in the 2019 Philippine Superliga All-Filipino Conference at the Filoil Flying V Arena.

With their backs against the wall after facing a two-set deficit, Petron got their game back together and showed dominance in the next two sets, eventually overpowering the Cargo Movers in the fifth set with a 10-0 scoring blast to lead early and seal the match.

It was sweet revenge for the Blaze Spikers who got even with the Cargo Movers this conference after losing their first-round match-up in four sets, 21-25, 25-17, 25-27, 19-25, back in June.

Atop the scoring onslaught for the Blaze Spikers was Rondina, who tallied 21 points to give F2 Logistics its first loss of the tournament.

With Rondina’s show of dominance, Delos Santos lauded the spiker for revitalizing the Blaze Spikers to a comeback victory over the Cargo Movers, saying it was Rondina’s energy that inspired the team to keep fighting and mount a statement come-from-behind win.

“Lagi akong proud sa batang ‘yan, [and] of course the whole team. Tawag ko nga diyan, spark plug e–kasi pag sinalpak mo sa team, siya ‘yung bumubuhay sa team namin,” Delos Santos said.

The former Golden Tigress has consistently wreaked havoc for Petron as she continues to be one of her team’s most consistent scorers, averaging almost 15 points per match.

She has scored 146 points in ten out of thirteen games played for Petron, placing second behind team captain Ces Molina who has tallied 158 points to lead the squad.

Delos Santos said he is proud of Rondina’s improving performance in the tournament, adding that there is no room to slack off not only for the 5-foot-6 open spiker but for the whole Petron squad if they want to continue their dominance.

“Mas nakita namin ‘yung improvement niya ngayon–hopefully magtuloy-tuloy. Stay humble din kami and hindi kami pwede maging complacent, at kailangan pa naming mag-double time para sa mga susunod naming games,” the head coach ended.

Rondina and the Blaze Spikers look to end their preliminary round campaign on a strong note as they face the Foton Tornadoes for their last assignment before the quarterfinals.
