Petron dug deep in their championship experience to survive Foton’s gutsy stand, pulling off an empathic five-set win to finish the preliminary round of the Philippine Superliga (PSL) All Filipino Conference 2019 on a strong note.
Completing a head-to-head prelims sweep, the Blaze Spikers eke out a 25-23, 24-26, 24-26, 25-22, 19-17 over the Tornadoes to emerge on top of the standings with 13 wins and a loss on an 11-game winning victory.
It was Petron’s second consecutive five-setter victory after its come-from-behind feat against F2 Logistics just two days ago.

With the win, the Blaze Spikers remained flawless in extended matches after winning all of its five five-set outings in the preliminaries, of which two were both against Cignal and Foton.
The Tornadoes, meanwhile, lost their third straight assignment, dropping to no. 5 with a 7-6 record.
Foton has to win its remaining match against Marinerang Pilipina while hoping for Cignal to bow to F2 Logistics in order to secure a top four berth.
Much like their first-round encounter, it was a nip-and-tuck affair between Petron and Foton as three out of five sets were extended.
The deciding frame went down the wire with Dindin Santiago-Manabat knotting the set thrice in a row for the Tornadoes while Sisi Rondina kept the Blaze Spikers afloat.
Tied at 17, Rondina drove Petron to match point with a through-the-block spike before Bernadeth Pons put on the finishing touch with a cross-court kill.
