Foton collected another win heading into the quarterfinals of the Philippine SuperLiga (PSL) All Filipino Conference 2019 after a three-set drubbing of Marinerang Pilipina, 25-15, 29-27, 25-14, on Tuesday at the Malolos Sports Malolos Sports and Convention Center.
Halting a three-game slide, the Tornadoes got back on their feet at the expense of the hapless Lady Skippers to gain momentary hold of the third spot as they improved their card to 8-6.
Dindin Santiago-Manabat led the scoring with 16 markers off 13 kills, a pair of aces, and a block as Foton edged Generika Ayala, who also stands at 8-6, by virtue of points while still hoping for Cignal to drop its last outing to secure no. 3.
Marinerang Pilipina, meanwhile, finished the prelims without a win to place last in the eight-team field.
For Santiago-Manabat, teamwork and service reception will play major role as Foton heads to a much tougher next round.
“Kung meron kaming service, meron kaming receive, susunod na ‘yung attack, susunod na ‘yung blocks, and siyempre ‘yung teamwork namin hindi dapat mawala kasi kung lalaban ‘yung isa dapat lumaban ang lahat,” she said.
Aside from the second set, where the Lady Skippers pushed them to an extension, it was a rather smooth sailing for the Tornadoes, who welcomed the young Eya Laure into their fold following the injury of skipper Maika Ortiz.
Foton dominated Marinerang Pilipina in the spiking department, 50-27, while having a slim advantage in blocks, 5-3, and aces, 5-4.
