Nerve of steel: Clutch Rondina erupts for 33 as Petron takes bronze

No one can question the heart of Sisi Rondina.

Rondina unleashed another monster performance to lift Petron during its intense five-setter bronze medal battle against Foton in the Philippine SuperLiga (PSL) All Filipino Conference 2019 earlier.

With the game on the line, the 22-year old ace hitter played clutch in the much-important ticks of the consolation match for the Blaze Spikers, who were forced into their third straight five-set match in less than a week.

Delivering when it mattered the most, the former University of Sto. Tomas stalwart took over and scored five of the final six points for the Shaq delos Santos-mentored spikers including the game-clinching hit.

As Foton threatened to pull off another upset after leading 8-4 in the decider, Rondina came through and lifted Petron for a one-point cushion, 11-12.

She then sent the Blaze Spikers to match point before Dindin Santiago-Manabat kept Foton momentarily alive after scoring from the backrow.

But Rondina had other things in mind as she dropped a bomb from the right side and won the game for her squad.

Rondina finished the almost three-hour encounter with 33 big points off 30 kills, a pair of denials and an ace to bring Petron to the podium.

Aside from Rondina, the Blaze Spikers also leaned on Ces Molina’s 15 markers as Mika Reyes and Remy Palma managed 11 hits apiece.

For Foton, meanwhile, Santiago-Manabat and Jaja Santiago conspired for 47 markers on a losing effort as Foton settled for fourth.

It was a close battle in the scoring department with Petron getting a slim advantage in attacks (71-69) and aces (11-8) while Foton had the edge in blocks (5-10).
