F2 turns back Cignal, moves closer to title

F2 Logistics is a win away from the Philippine SuperLiga (PSL) All Filipino Conference 2019 championship escaping Cignal, 25-22, 26-24, 18-25, 16-25, 15-8, Saturday during the Game One of the best-of-three Finals at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

The Cargo Movers averted disaster and continued their mastery over the HD Spikers to move closer to their second All-Filipino title and fourth overall PSL championship.

The reigning silver medalists have the chance to end their string of Finals losses when they take on Cignal for Game 2 on Tuesday at the Mall of Asia Arena.

Kalei Mau didn’t disappoint on her first Finals stint, dropping 25 kills, a block and an ace for game-high 27 markers for the Ramil de Jesus-backed squad.

After a lousy play in the third and fourth, allowing Cignal to drag them to a decider, the ladies in yellow came back to life in the fifth for a five-point blitz, 9-4, before zooming to a deciding 13-6 lead.

Having been in the championship series for seven straight times, F2 Logistics showed more composure down the latter part of the first two sets.

As Cignal displayed resiliency, the Cargo Movers gunned for a 4-0 run to win the opener and showed grit to win the second when Janine Navarro committed costly back-to-back errors.

The HD Spikers came alive in the fourth with Alohi Robins-Hardy, Mylene Paat and Navarro doing the damage for a huge 19-10 lead.

It was all Cignal in the fourth as F2 Logistics fell to defensive disarray in the fourth, allowing the match to be stretched to five.

Cignal rallied behind the combined 39 points from Jovelyn Gonzaga, Robins-Hardy and Navarro to no avail.
