F2 Logistics, Cignal out to win Game 2 with differing motives

F2 Logistics and Cignal have opposing missions when they march to the Game 2 of the best-of-three Finals of the Philippine SuperLiga (PSL) All Filipino Conference 2019 today at the Mall of Asia Arena.

Set at 7 p.m., the second collision in championship series between the Cargo Movers and the HD Spikers are billed to go down the wire following their intense first match-up last Saturday.

In their first clash for gold, this year’s finalists engaged in a five-setter battle, 25-22, 26-24, 18-25, 17-25, 15-8, that ended up in favor of the much-experienced F2 Logistics.

Riding on a seventh straight Finals streak, the Cargo Movers’ expertise in big games showed up when they averted disaster, rallying behind their ace hitter Kalei Mau.

Mau did not look like a rookie in the PSL Finals after a stellar showing, scoring game-high 27 markers off 25 spikes, a block and an ace laced with six excellent reception.

Ara Galang and Majoy Baron added 11 hits apiece while Kim Dy had nine as the ladies in yellow moved a win closer to their second All Filipino title and overall fourth PSL crown.

But while Ramil de Jesus and his wards aim to halt their string of Finals losses, Cignal has other things in mind as it hopes to stretch the series for a decider on Thursday.

Returning to the Finals after two years, the HD Spikers showed grit and grind after clawing back from a two-set deficit before falling short in the rubber frame.

Janine Navarro, Jovelyn Gonzaga, and Alohi Robins-Hardy led the charge with combined 39 points for the one-time champion.
