Foton Tornadoes picked up their first victory sans the Santiago sisters as they dismantled PLDT Home Fibr in straight sets, 25-12, 25-20, 25-18, Monday in the 2019 Philippine SuperLiga (PSL) Invitationals Cup at the FilOil Flying V Center in San Juan.
The Blue Energy finally found their groove to disconnect the Power Hitters, finishing their run in Pool A with a 1-2 record.
Shaya Adorador unloaded 15 markers off 13 attacks and a pair of aces for the Aaron Velez-mentored squad.
The win marked Foton’s first without the Santiago sisters, whose services will be rendered to their respective Japanese club for the rest of the year.
This, according to Adorador, is one of their motivations to win their assignment today aside from the fact that the tournament is short, thus every game is important and every loss is costly.
“Sobrang mahalaga po every game naman sa amin pero etong game na ‘to siyempre mas naging mahalaga kasi mas tumaas na ‘yung morale namin naka-two losses agad kami so magandang bawi ‘to para sa amin,” Adorador said.
This is, by far, Foton’s best game in the conference.
Except for the second frame, where PLDT showed more resistance, the Tornadoes were in control throughout the 70-minute encounter, rallying behind Adorador, Elaine Kasilag and returning Ej Laure.
For Adorador, what went right was their reception and communication — the two areas they struggled with during their losses against Sta. Lucia and Cignal.
“‘Yung reception namin mas nag-improve and communication, and nag-enjoy lang kami sa game,” she closed.
