Cargo Movers put on ‘block party’ to turn back Lifesavers

F2 Logistics put on a great defensive show at the net to turn back Generika Ayala in four sets, 15-25, 25-16, 25-13, 25-14, Tuesday in the 2019 Philippine SuperLiga (PSL) Invitationals Cup at the Sta. Rosa Multi-Purpose Sports Complex in Sta. Rosa, Laguna.

Shaking off a rusty opening set loss, the Cargo Movers brought down the hammer on the Lifesavers in the next three to pick up their second consecutive victory in three outings.

As they were at a disadvantage in attacks (38-44), the defending champs dominated at the net as they recorded 15 kill blocks as opposed to Generika Ayala’s four.

The two-peat seeking squad also racked up nine points from the service deck while committing fewer errors (18-28) to take the second spot in Pool B and move to the next phase on a high morale.

With Kalei Mau still out due to injury, Ara Galang, Kim Dy, Majoy Baron, Des Cheng and Aby MaraƱo all came through to power the Ramil de Jesus-backed spikers, who will join Foton, Sta. Lucia and Generika Ayala in Pool D next week.

Cheng, who finished with 13 points off eight kills and three aces, admitted that F2 Logistics has been complacent in the first frame.

But while their start was not ideal, the outside hitter said that the Cargo Movers managed to execute their game plan for the following sets en route to victory.

“[Noong first set ay] parang sobrang complacent namin na kaya namin ‘yung game. Pero na-realize namin na lahat ng team lumalaban and kailangan namin mag-stick sa plan namin. Nagawa naman namin siya sa succeeding sets,” she said.

Learning from their recent outing, the La Salle standout said that F2 Logistics has to be sharp right from the get-go to avoid making a repeat performance of the lopsided first set loss in this game.

“Kailangan ‘yung focus namin pagpasok namin ng court nandoon agad. Hindi tulad ng first set parang nagkakapaan lang kami. Since marami na kaming experience na magkakasama, dapat mas gamay na namin ‘yung isa’t isa,” she said.
