Cignal remains unscathed in 3 games, adds Sta. Lucia to their list of victims

For the third-straight game, the Cignal HD Spikers showed merciless offense as they added Sta. Lucia Lady Realtors to their growing list of victims, 25-18, 25-23, 25-14, in the Philippine Superliga Invitationals today at the Sta. Rosa Multipurpose Sports Center.

The victory officially brings the HD Spikers to a sweep of the Pool A composed of PLDT Home Fibr, Foton Tornadoes Blue Energy, and Sta. Lucia.

Aside from sweeping the pool, Cignal has not dropped any set as of yet. They seek to keep their perfect record as they face title-contender Petron on Saturday.

While the Lady Realtors took the upper hand at the latter part of the second set, 11-17, the HD Spikers leaned on a balanced team effort as Rachel Ann Daquis, Jov Gonzaga, and Roselyn Doria took the charge for a late onslaught.

Daquis finished the game with a double-double figure scoring 10 points from nine attacks and an ace while doing a good job defending the floor for 16 excellent digs.

For Daquis, their motivation for this season is to enter the finals on a high note. This is why, as much as they can, they want to defeat all their opponents in straight sets.

“‘Yung second set, sabi naming lahat hindi kami pwedeng maging complacent kasi lahat ng kalaban namin magaling. So, ayun doon nagising na hindi kami pwedeng matalo. Every game sobrang importante,” she said.

“So ang motivation namin ay kung kayang i-straight sets ay gawin at kung hindi naman ay gawin ‘yung best [para manalo],” she added.

The HD Spikers led the Lady Realtors in all scoring departments with more attacks (37-27), blocks, (5-3), and aces (11-3).
