Cignal stays perfect, adds PLDT to growing list of victims

Cignal has no plans of stopping its hot cruise just yet as it turned back PLDT Home Fibr in straight sets fashion, 25-22, 25-19, 25-20, Thursday to remain undefeated in the 2019 Philippine SuperLiga (PSL) Invitationals Cup at the Malolos Sports and Convention Center.

The HD Spikers stretched their unbeaten streak to five at the expense of the skidding Power Hitters behind the scoring effort of Mylene Paat.

Fresh from the national team stint, Paat wreaked havoc from the opposite as she dropped game-high 18 markers built on 14 kills, three blocks and an ace.

For Paat, one thing the HD Spikers need to dispose of is their tendency to be complacent despite the sizzling campaign they are currently having.

“Siguro ‘yung isa na ‘yun na reason na hindi dapat kami mag-relax knowing na naka-apat na panalo kami. Ayun ‘yung dapat naming matututunan, ‘wag mag-relax and be consistent every time,” the opposite spiker said.

Janine Navarro also provided big punches scoring 12 markers for the Edgar Barroga-backed squad, who fought off PLDT’s good early runs and late set charges to notch their fourth three-setter victory.

Cignal had the advantage in all scoring departments, producing more attacks (46-40), blocks (10-4) and aces (7-6) whilst committing less error (11-12).

The HD Spikers close in on a preliminary round sweep as they take on Petron while PLDT, now at 1-3, looks to bounce back against hapless Marinerang Pilipina on Saturday. Both games will be played at Caloocan Sports Complex.
