Petron’s Sisi Rondina proved too hot to handle for Foton Tornadoes as the Blaze Spikers returned to the Finals after a quick drubbing of the Blue Energy, 25-17, 25-14, 25-16, in the knockout semifinals of the 2019 Philippine SuperLiga (PSL) Invitationals Cup, Tuesday at the Malolos Sports and Convention Center.
After missing the championship action for the first time in three years last conference, Petron strutted its way back to the gold medal phase as it booted Foton out of title contention behind Rondina’s prolific efforts.
The 23-year old outside hitter uncorked 15 of the Blaze Spikers’ 42 attacks to go with a block and an ace for game-high 17-point output, extending the squad’s unbeaten streak to seven.

Despite being the only unblemished team in the eight-team field, Rondina said she and Petron entered the match with a do-or-die mentality as they badly wanted to make a comeback to the Finals.
For them, it was either going all-out and getting a desirable outcome or playing loose and repeating last conference’s mishap.
“Siyempre ‘yung goal namin e umabot sa Finals. ‘Yung game plan namin hindi mawawala. Lahat ng pinagpaguran namin sa training kailangan mailabas namin. May outcome ‘yung pagod namin,” she said.
“Kanina nag-enjoy na din kami. Any time p’wedeng mawala ‘yun kaya sinet namin sa mind namin na last game na natin ‘to. Maganda outcome nito. Atin ‘to. Positive vibes lang kanina.”
With Rondina leading the damage, Petron was in control from start to finish, building huge separations that Foton just couldn’t find a way to close
The Blaze Spikers enjoyed double-digit contributions from Ces Molina and Chloe Cortez, who managed 12 and 10, as Aiza Maizo-Pontillas and Remy Palma chimed in five hits apiece.

Petron almost doubled up on Foton’s 24 attacks as it registered 42 while edging the latter in aces (7-5) and errors (14-23).
Rondina and the Blaze Spikers now await for the winner of the semifinals battle between Cignal and F2 Logistics while Foton was relegated to the bronze medal.
