Sta. Lucia is off to a great start this year as it carved out a tightly-contested five-set decision, 18-25, 27-25, 18-25, 25-21, 17-15, over Generika Ayala in the opening day of the 2020 Mayor Maiksi Super Cup: Spike For A Cause, Monday at the Imus Sports Complex.
Down by two sets to one, the Lady Realtors displayed resiliency to notch their first win in the three-day tournament at the expense of the Lifesavers.
It was reminiscent of Eddison Orcullo and his troop’s five-set victory against Generika Ayala during the Invitationals Cup last season.

Recruits Royse Tubino, Mika Reyes, Fil-Am Jessica Vestal and Canadian import Shania Joseph paced the offensive charge for Orcullo-mentored spikers, who will clash with West Japan All-Stars on Wednesday at 5 PM.
Djanel Cheng and Bang Pineda also contributed from the non-scoring end as Sta. Lucia clinches the top spot of the four-team field.
Generika Ayala leaned on Elizabeth Vicet Campos from Cuba and local acquisitions Eli Soyud, Mina Aganon and Rhea Dimaculangan to no avail.
The Lifesavers look to bounce back against Cignal, also on Wednesday at 3 PM.
The Super Cup serves as a preview of the upcoming 2020 Philippine SuperLiga (PSL) Grand Prix action which fires off on February 22.
