No import, no problem as Cignal survives Generika Ayala in five sets

Coming off a dismal loss in their debut, Cignal ekes out a five-set victory, 25-23, 25-19, 21-25, 22-25, 15-12, Wednesday against Generika Ayala to post its first win in the 2020 Mayor Maiksi Super Cup at the Imus Sports Complex.

The HD Spikers quickly recover from a three-set beating from West Japan All-Stars during the tournament opener at the expense of the hapless Lifesavers.

The Edgar Barroga-mentored hitters played sans an import as Fil-Hawaiin Bedart-Ghani has yet to arrive in the country ahead of the 2020 Philippine SuperLiga (PSL) Grand Prix.

Cignal now holds a 1-1 record as Generika Ayala dropped its second straight five-set loss in as many outings.

Coming back from two sets down, the Lifesavers leaned on Cuban import Elizabeth Vicet Campos to stretch the match to a fifth, even momentarily gaining hold of the steering wheel in the decider.

But the all-local HD Spikers had other things in mind as they erased a slim 7-8 deficit en route to victory.

Comprising the winning team’s lineup for the three-day tournament are Alohi Robins-Hardy, Mumay Vivas, Roselyn Doria, Janine Marciano, May Luna, April Aguilar, and Ranya Musa.

Also seeing action are Julia Ipac, Jheck Dionela, Cindy Amutan and ex-Generika Ayala spiker Fiola Ceballos.
