Reyes unfazed as RC Cola tries to topple Foton: Don’t underestimate the winningest team

RC Cola Army coach Kungfu Reyes said the Lady Troopers are ready for their David and Goliath battle against the Foton Tornadoes for a chance to enter the Finals in the 2016 PSL GrandPrix.

Struggling in the early part of the tournament, the Lady Troopers were able to get enough wins for them to qualify for the semifinals. Ending the preliminary round at 4th spot, RC Cola will face top seed Foton at the Ibalong Centrum for Recreation in Legazpi City, Albay on Saturday.

“Naka-ready naman yung team. Nakapag-prepare kami ng mas maganda ngayong week na ‘to. Halos hundred percent attendance. Basta naka-ready kami para sa Foton,” he told FOX Sports.

“Trabahuhin talaga namin sila kasi top seed sila e. Talagang matibay sa tao (si Foton). Talagang David and Goliath ang labanan ngayon. Mas malaki sila sa amin, mas bata, mas dynamic yung import nila. Kailangan trabahuhin lang namin.”

In their last meeting, the Lady Troopers were able to push the Tornadoes to their limits but lost in five sets. Reyes admitted that that loss actually paved their way to get back on track to their road to the finals.

“Maaari (nakatulong) kasi (mataas) yung spirit nung mga player e. Nakapag-adjust nga kami (sa kanila). Pero this time talagang ta-trabahuhin namin. Ibang usapan na ‘to. Semifinals na ‘to. Definitely may konting pressure yan para sa kanila,” Reyes added.

“Yung imports namin getting better. So maganda, hopefully makasabay. Although nagtata-talo kami, don’t underestimate the winningest team sa PSL,” he added.

With their recent games having only a few local players stepping up for Army, this time, according to Reyes, all are expected to perform better together with their imports.

“Mas ready na yung locals ngayon. Mas maganda na yung pine-perform. Nakita kasi namin sa practices e. So ngayon maganda na yung galawan nung mga locals tsaka yung level nung conditioning nila, mas tumaas na,” he said.

Reyes will bank on her locals led by Jovelyn Gonzaga and Rachel Anne Daquis to provide solid support to their imports.

“Siguro maibalik lang namin yung decisiveness na yung talagang ‘Army’ yung makita mong maglalaro. Yung go hard lagi. Kumbaga lilinisin namin yung sahig para lang maka depensa kami.”

The Lady Troopers will take the first flight to Albay on Dec. 2 to prepare and be able to train at the venue in the afternoon.

The semifinal showdowns were split in the morning and afternoon at the Ibalong Centrum for Recreation. The Lady Troopers will battle it out against Foton in the morning at 10 a.m. while Generika and Cignal will play for classification at 3 p.m. F2 Logistics will face number two seed Petron at 5 p.m. – By Joyce Palad
