The Philippine national women’s volleyball team completed its tuneup series with a sweep of Smart Giga Hitters, 25-16, 25-17, 25-17, in the 2018 Philippine Superliga (PSL) Invitationals Cup, Thursday afternoon at the FilOil Flying V Arena in San Juan.
Skipper Aby Maraño, who has been present in all of the three tuneup games, lead the nine players who saw action during the match which only lasted for one hour and 11 minutes.
Present in the match were Sta. Lucia’s Becca Rivera and MJ Phillips, Cocolife’s Denden Lazaro, Dindin Manabat, Jaja Santiago, CJ Rosario and Maika Ortiz of Foton, and Cignal’s Mylene Paat.
Rivera was named MVP of the game with 23 excellent sets laced with three kills and an ace.
Despite playing with depleted lineup, the national team had had an unchallenged stint as no team was able to steal a set from them.
Santiago and Manabat conspired for 29 hits in the national team’s straight set beating of Cocolife Asset Managers, 25-13, 25-17, 25-11.
The squad swept Cignal HD Spikers, 25-21, 25-15, 25-21, in their second game with Maraño topscoring with 17 markers built on 13 kills, two blocks, and two aces.
The three-game tuneup series is part of the preparation of the Shaq delos Santos-mentored team who are billed to participate in the 2018 Asian Games in Indonesia from August 18 to September 2.
