Maintaining focus and taking things one step at a time are essential for the Petron Blaze Spikers’ title campaign in the 2018 PSL All Filipino Conference.
They established themselves as top contenders for the crown as they emerged victorious yesterday over the Generika-Ayala Lifesavers in straight sets, 25-18, 25-22, 25-13, for their second consecutive win in the tournament.
While the Lifesavers fought hard and kept it close in the first two sets, it was the Blaze Spikers who pulled away with steady contributions from the whole team.
From then on, Petron showed its dominance in the court as they scored at will in the third set, leading early and limiting Generika-Ayala to only 13 points to take the match.

While veteran Aiza Maizo-Pontillas and middle blocker Remy Palma led the Blaze Spikers with 11 and 9 points, respectively, the game saw a balanced effort from the whole team with various players chipping in points.
Palma attributed their dominant victory to the team’s resilience as she saw improvement coming from their previous game against Cocolife.

“Kasi last time, nagmamadali kami so ngayon, one point at a time lang,” Palma said. “Binalik lang namin yung focus namin.”
Setter Rhea Dimaculangan said the Blaze Spikers did nothing different but played with confidence and urgency for a dominant display.
“Wala namang iba, siguro yung patience nga namin (ay) mas hinabaan namin, and yung kumpiyansa sa sarili namin na kaya naming ilaro yung laro talaga namin,” Dimaculangan said.
The Blaze Spikers seek to extend their winning streak as they go up against the retooled Smart Giga Hitters on Thursday.
