Cignal dominates Foton for semifinals stint

The Cignal HD Spikers successfully extend their campaign as they enter the semifinals after thwarting the Foton Tornadoes Blue Energy in four sets, 26-28, 25-19, 25-19, 25-18, earlier in the 2018 PSL All Filipino Conference at the Filoil Flying V Centre.

After failing to keep hold of the extended first set, the HD Spikers picked up their game and displayed dominance in the succeeding sets, leading early to reduce hopes for the Tornadoes.

Team captain Rachel Ann Daquis led the onslaught for Cignal with 24 points including 21 attacks, one block, and two aces, while national team mainstay Mylene Paat chipped in 22 points.

The opening set turned out to be a tug of war as both teams refused to pull away from each other, with the Tornadoes scraping by as Cignal committed two straight attack errors in the extension.

With a disappointing first set loss, the HD Spikers regained ground as they opened the next two sets with huge leads early on, taking the driver’s seat to lead the game two sets to one.

Veteran Royse Tubino stole the show in the fourth set as she proved relentless from the wing, creating momentum for the HD Spikers to eventually win the game.

Paat couldn’t contain her happiness as her team successfully barged into the semifinals, citing their sacrifices in order to achieve a successful outing in this conference.

“Sobrang blessing yung pagiging as one namin, and yung pagpupursige ng bawat isa, nagbunga siyang lahat so sobrang saya,” Paat said.

The HD Spikers will face the undefeated top seed Petron Blaze Spikers in the semifinals.
